Aggie Weekly- April 24th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

We understand that many of you have questions about the end of the year since the Governor closed schools on Monday. We wanted to provide you with our “End of Year Plan” on how students will be able collect their belongings, pay lunch balances, return winter sports jerseys, etc. We will once again have a zoom meeting (see details below) on Monday, April 27th for students and parents to discuss our plan on allowing students to gather their belongings, while keeping them safe.

Governor Baker Announces School Closure for the Remainder of the Year:
On Tuesday, Governor Baker announced that public and private schools (not including residential special education schools) will stay closed through the end of the school year. This is a necessary step to keep everyone as healthy as possible. Remote learning is even more important now, and DESE will issue additional guidance to public schools later this week.

Commissioner Riley views the state’s response to COVID-19 as having four phases:

  1. The initial school closures, with a focus on students’ and families’ immediate needs, such as safety and food;
  2. The initial remote learning recommendations, before anyone knew how long schools would be closed;
  3. The remote learning update that will come later this week, following the announcement that schools will not reopen this school year; and
  4. Re-opening school, a process that will take shape in the coming months.

A Message from Superintendent Sands:

Congratulations to Alexis Kublin on earning the title of Class of 2020 Valedictorian!

Dual Enrollment Opportunities

All students earlier this week received an email regarding dual enrollment opportunities through Bristol Community College for Summer 2020. These courses are offered to many local vocational and technical high schools so enrollment is first come, first serve. These courses will be completely ONLINE. Students are eligible if they have a 2.5 G.P.A. from Bristol Aggie. (If students have previously taken a BCC course they must have at least a 3.0 G.P.A. through the college) These courses are at no cost to you (some fees and books are not covered). The offerings are listed below, spaces will be filling up fast so please reach out if you and your student are interested. Some courses require an Accuplacer placement test before enrollment and at this moment BCC has not come up with a specific plan in order to bypass that requirement. However, if the student has taken their PSATs or SATs they may use that score in place of the Accuplacer. There are some courses listed that do not require an Accuplacer score.

In order to enroll, students must reach out to Ms. Costa to ensure they are prepared for the course and have the appropriate prerequisites. Students and parents may not sign up for any dual enrollment course on their own. Please see below for the free course offerings or check out BCC’s academic course listings for courses that are not free. Students may also register for a course that is not listed here.

Please click on the name of the course below for more information from the BCC website. If you are interested or have any questions you may reach out to Ms. Costa.
