Aggie Weekly-February 15th

Aggie Weekly
Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:
This week our students finished the week strong by competing in the Vo-Ag Volleyball tournament.  Animal Science won the student tournament, however, the Staff Team titled “Straight of Class” won the overall tournament.  We want to wish everyone a safe and happy February vacation!

This week we have two High Five Club Winners:
Katie Walorz and Cassidy White!

Slow Tools Conference: Six Agricultural Mechanics students and both instructors went to Stone Barns, NY for the Slow Tools Conference.  This is a great opportunity for our students to network and discuss the future of farming tools. Students will participate in panels and presentations about design thinking for farmers, revamping old tools, designing new tools, and discussing how to help farmers. One of the goals is for farmers to leave with a better understanding of what engineers/designers are doing (and the network to work with them throughout the year) as well as for engineers/designers to have a better understanding of how they can become involved and part of solving small-scale agriculture problems.

And

Pictured Below: 6 AgMec students along with both instructors went to NY for a conference.  The popsicle sticks simulate a row crop that would need cultivating. #BAPRIDE

In the Classroom:
AgMec: Students made a roller to roll canvas top for when they pick up shavings. #BAPRIDE

Junior Animal Science: Students hold some of the piglets from our newly born litter. All piglets and mom are doing very well. #BAPRIDE
ELA: Alexia Whittle shows off aspects of her Azorean culture in Mrs. Coderre’s Senior English class.  The “What Is an American?” project asks students to explore what it means to be a modern American and how our past informs our present culture.   Her project was capped off with some delicious Portuguese treats from a Fall River bakery.

PE: On Friday, students from each Vo-Ag participated in our annual Vo-Ag Volleyball Tournament.  This year’s winner was Large Animal Science. Check out some of the pictures today. #BAPride
Peer Mentor Program
Students in the Peer Mentor Program worked together to see which team could create the highest spaghetti tower that would support a marshmallow. Great job everyone!
