Aggie Weekly-November 15th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:
Last week we released Term 1 grades and we hope that you had a chance to view them on PowerSchool (see directions below). This week we were able to meet with several parents at our annual Parent-Teacher Conferences and discuss Term 1 grades and plans for students to be successful. If you did not have a chance to attend, please do not hesitate to contact our amazing staff.

Attention Parents: Stay updated with your student’s grades- If you haven’t done so already, we strongly encourage you to create a login. See directions below.

Introduction

PowerSchool's Parent Portal is a tool specifically developed for parents and students that integrates into the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS). At Bristol County Agricultural High School we are committed to student success. With the PowerSchool Parent Portal, students and parents will have live access to grades. Our staff is committed to updating the portal every 2 weeks to ensure that you are up to date with your child’s academics. We strongly encourage families to utilize this feature to ensure that your child does not fall behind and meets expectations. If you have any questions on how to access the portal, please contact jcosta@bcahs.com with any questions.

Let’s Get Started

To get started, you must create your PowerSchool account and link your child(ren) to it.

Creating Your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account

Before you can log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you will need to create your account and link your child(ren) to it. You should have received a letter from Bristol Aggie with your child's Access ID and Access Password. This information is needed to link a child to your account. If you do not have this information, contact the Main Office at 508-669-6744.

NOTE: The Access ID and Access Password for your child should be protected. Only provide this information to individuals who need to monitor your child’s progress.

Create Parent Account

Creating an account requires 2 steps: 1. creating your parent/guardian account and 2. linking student to the account.

Enter the following information:

  • First Name – Your first name.
  • Last Name – Your last name.
  • Email Address – Your email address (must be unique). • Username – Your desired username (must be unique).
  • Password – Your desired password (must be at least 8 characters).
If you choose an email address or username that is already in use, the system will alert you when you submit the page and ask you to choose another.

The email address MUST be unique. If Parents/Guardians share the same email address, you should only set up one parent access account and you can only login and access one at a time. If you have different email addresses you can set up another account with that email address.

Your password must be at least 8 characters long. The system will indicate your password strength. Please try to use a password that is "Strong" or "Strongest"

Link Students to Account

This section requires that the information for at least one student be provided. The Access ID and the Access Password should have been provided to you in a separate letter. They are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as indicated in the letter.

Enter the following information:

  • Student Name – The name of the student in "First Last" format.
  • Access ID – The student's Access ID from the PowerSchool Parent Access letter.
  • Access Password – The student's Access Password from the PowerSchool Parent Access letter.
  • Relationship – Your relationship to the student. Choose a value from the drop-down menu.
Continue adding additional students. You should have received a separate PowerSchool Parent Access letter for each student in your family. The credentials for each student are unique and should be kept private.

When you've finished, press the "Enter" button.

Account Successfully Created!

If everything is correct, you will be returned to the sign in screen. Enter your Username and Password you just created to start using your new account.

Common Account Creation Errors

If there are any problems, PowerSchool will indicate the error and ask you to correct the problem. Common errors include: failure to complete all fields, entering an email address or username that is already associated with another account, or entering an incorrect student access ID or password.

Remember that access ID's and passwords are case sensitive; please enter them exactly as indicated in the letter.

When an entry error occurs, you will need to re-enter any information that was not entered correctly. Also, for security reasons, you will need to re-enter all passwords.

Switch Students

Once you've signed-in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you can easily switch between the students in your family. A button will appear in the upper-left corner of the screen for each student that has been linked to your account.

Forgot Your Password?

If you forget your password, you can request a password reset from the system at any time. Just click the "Having trouble signing in?" link on the Parent Sign-in page.

Fill in your Username and Email Address. The system will authenticate your information and send you a security token with instructions on how to reset your password.

It is important to note that the security token sent is only good for 30 minutes. If you do not reset the password in the allotted time, you will need to repeat the process.

In the Classroom

  • Library/College Presentation: University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) Presentation
Steve Clavett, East Coast admissions representative for the University of Northwestern Ohio, College of Applied Technologies, spent time giving a detailed presentation to Mr. Medeiros’ junior agricultural mechanics students on Tuesday November 12th.

The presentation focused on their COLLEGE OF APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES which offers the following programs:

  • Automotive Technology
  • Automotive Technology Supervision
  • Robotics and Automation Technology
  • Diesel Technology
  • High Performance Motorsports Technology
  • Alternate Fuels Technology
  • Agricultural Equipment Technology
  • HVAC/R Technology
Mr. Clavett enthusiastically conveyed how students can earn the degrees, learn the skills, and acquire resources that lead to the careers of their dreams. Mr. Clavett emphasized that students receive real-world education from day one. He enhanced the presentation by sharing with them stories of successful business owners and operators who use their learned skills to earn a good living because their work is in high-demand. Mr. Clavett is proud of the fact that 83% of College of Applied Technology graduates are employed or continuing their education (based on recent surveys).

In particular, he brought to light for the students the many advantages that UNOH has to offer such as their state-of-the-art facilities, hands-on experience, and career opportunities.

Their website sums it up nicely: “UNOH will give you the power to do big things and we provide this power by delivering accredited academics at an affordable price with small classes, a rich campus environment, industry relationships, and so much more!”

UNOH offers other degrees and programs, and its list of degrees and programs is extensive. Bristol Aggie has matriculated students in the past to UNOH who have had good success.

Ag Mech: On Friday, Ag Mechanics students were working on their projects. #BAPRIDE

US History: Ms. Reilly is implementing the new technology with a surface and the interactive TV to increase student engagement. Nice work! #BAPRIDE

Flori: Today in Flori, Sean prepared and read a speech to his classmates. #BAPRIDE

Junior Floriculture: Students visited A Touch of Grace Florist in Dartmouth this week to learn more about running a flower shop from owner Chris Pinhancos.

NRM: Juniors in Ms. Couto's class were learning about townships and how to locate them on a map using their unique codes. We played Battle-(Town)-ship (a game very similar to battleship) where students had to correctly locate their opponents townships before they found theirs!

GSA: On Thursday prior to Parent-Teacher Conferences, the GSA sponsored a “Supporting our LGBTQ+ Loved Ones Family Night” by James Shultis. We are always looking for opportunities to create a supportive and welcoming environment for our school community.

Bristol Aggie Educational Foundation

The Bristol Aggie Educational Foundation, Inc is beginning it's 2019-2020 grant cycle. This grant is for students enrolled in Bristol County Agricultural High School. Funds from this grant can be used for expansion of knowledge related to your chosen field, equipment and/or software. If purchasing equipment, focus on requesting funds to purchase capital items (things that you will use year after year and don’t need to be re-purchased or items that expire/diminish) and that will sustain in the future. The maximum grant award will be in the sum of $3,000. The application selection process is highly competitive with many more applicants than available grants so submit early and do your best work. Grant recipients are announced in mid-January.

The Foundation grant committee evaluates each application, which must be submitted online and show that the project fits in a Plant Science, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management or Agricultural Mechanics pathways or be aligned with a Bristol Aggie club or organization. You can view the judging rubric at the following link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Mx3OuZ6QFeMOSokpvTPaeDUsaG9q7d0R
