Aggie Weekly- January 4th

Aggie Weekly
Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and a successful start to 2019!  The weather this week felt like we returned from April break with temperatures reaching in the 50s!  We shifted our Term 2 end date to balance out the term. Term 2 is now ending on Friday, January 25th.  See midterm schedule below.

Bristol Aggie Alumni: We always love to hear from our alumni.  This week, senior Mellany Munroe sent us a short video of her “grampy,” Charles Cote.  He graduated from Bristol Aggie in 1941. We do not know for certain but he may be our longest surviving alumni.  Thanks for sharing!
In the Classroom:
AgMec: AgMec received new equipment today as part of the grant. In addition, we are proud to partner with the Dighton Highway Dept to work on their farm tractor. #BAPRIDE

Flori: Flori students checking on our plants after break! #BAPRIDE

Animal Science: Animal Science students and our puppies enjoying a walk outside today. #BAPRIDE

FFA:
The following email was sent out to all students yesterday regarding the upcoming State FFA Convention!
Students,
You are invited to join your chapter members and the State FFA Officer team at the 88th Massachusetts State FFA Convention!
What is State Convention? It is a fun filled three days in March, where students from across the state that are enrolled in agricultural education gather together to meet, have fun and compete in a variety of contests. Join us as the state officer team hosts leadership workshops and twenty six Career and Leadership Development Events. Whether you are interested in public speaking, agricultural sales, agricultural science or FFA history, the 2019 State FFA Convention has something for you. Since 1931, FFA members from across the Commonwealth have gathered each year to compete in skill-based events and engage in leadership development opportunities, making lifelong friendships in the process.
Sign up sheets for CDE/LDEs have been hung in the hallway between the Main Office and Guidance. It is a listing of the events occurring at state convention. If you are interested in an event, list your name (even if other names are already there. we will sort it out later). The forms will stay up until this Monday at noon! Here is a link to a description of all of the career and leadership development events. FRESHMEN STUDENTS - there are events just for you! Creed, Conduction of Chapter Meetings, Quiz Bowl and more.  Some of you attending the chapter meeting about the events and know a little bit. It is certainly okay if you didn't. Sign up!

Student Services
For Seniors Only:
We will be hosting two On-Site Admissions for both Massasoit Community College and Bristol Community College towards the end of January. An on-site admissions allows the students to apply to those colleges right on that day and walk away with an acceptance letter on the spot! It is a great opportunity and each student who signs up will be able to speak directly with an admissions counselor here at BA. Please see the flyers below for more information, and contact Ms. Costa in Student Services with any questions!

Sign up for Massasoit through the Google Form HERE.

Sign up for Bristol through the Google Form HERE.

PAL Program
Here at Bristol Aggie we will be piloting a new program for our freshmen students called PAL. PAL stands for Peer-Assisted Learning and assigns an upperclassman to a freshmen teacher/course. This upperclassman holds weekly meetings and will assist students in understanding the material, grasping study skills and organizing/preparing for tests/quizzes/homework. Since this is a pilot not all freshmen courses are assigned a PAL leader yet but if your student has Mr. Mendonsa, Mrs. Hoxie, Ms. Reilly, Mr. Costa or any Biology teacher they can attend their respective PAL’s after school sessions. Here is a copy of a FAQ that you may reference if you have any questions about this new PAL program. See below for the January schedule of our PAL’s which will kick off next week, January 7! Sessions will run from 2:45-3:45pm and take place in the teacher’s classroom or in the library! Keep an eye out because our entire calendar will be uploaded to our Student Services page of the BA website and will be sent to all freshmen students & parents next week!
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to Ms. Costa!
