Aggie Weekly- October 30th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

This week we hosted Lifetouch photos for picture day.  The seniors and freshmen were able to take their photos on Monday, and we had to reschedule Tuesday’s photos to Friday.  We were able to get a picture of everyone on site.  It is imperative that we have these pictures taken so we can update PowerSchool with accurate information.

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween

COVID-19 Flowchart: We are continually reviewing our protocols and looking for opportunities to increase communication and understanding on how to react to this pandemic.  We have adopted this flowchart from a nearby district which clearly communicates how to respond with COVID-19 symptoms, close contacts, etc.  We appreciate everyone’s effort to keep our community safe.  Please continue to be diligent with regards to health and safety.  Everyone has a role to play in our school community.  This virus does not follow any set of rules and does not discriminate.  As we get closer to the holiday season, please continue to take responsibility for your own health and safety as well as the Bristol Aggie school community.  If you are feeling sick, please stay home.  In addition please avoid any social gatherings which could spread the disease among our school.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our school nurse, Ms. Anderson (EAnderson@bcahs.com).

Welcome Ms. Anderson: Last week we notified you of our nurse vacancy.  We are pleased to announce Ms. Anderson to the Bristol Aggie Family!  See below a short bio from Ms. Anderson

Ms. Anderson is excited to join the Bristol Aggie team as the School Nurse. Ms. Anderson believes that education is important but also equally important is the care and well-being of the students and staff.  She is an alumnus of Brockton Hospital School of Nursing 2013 and earned her Bachelorette in Nursing from Curry College in 2016. She also attended Johnson & Wales University after high school where she earned an Associates in Business Management in 2006. Ms. Anderson has worked in the school setting for seven years with grades K-12 and thoroughly enjoys working with students and staff.  She currently lives in West Bridgewater where she owns and operates a small farm. She raises beef cattle, a small herd of goats and enjoys every minute on the farm. Ms. Anderson looks forward to working with the Bristol Aggie family for many years to come and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Virtual Town Hall: On Thursday we hosted another Town Hall meeting where we took this opportunity to check in with students and families and gather feedback.  We appreciate everyone’s diligence and safety in regards to remaining safe to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.  Please remain vigilant, especially as the number of COVID cases continues to rise in Massachusetts and in Bristol County.

In the Classroom

  • Ag Mechanics: Ag Mechanics students working to assist in the install of the exhaust for the welding booths. #BAPride

  • Ag Mechanics: Our students are fortunate to have opportunities to bring in their own vehicle to troubleshoot issues with their teacher. #BAPride

  • Floriculture: Mrs. Chavaliers’s senior Flori students assembling and designing fall arrangements. #BAPride

  • Science: Ms. Perry teaches chemistry to our sophomores in the library, specifically how to solve for volume.

  • Math: Mr. Costa teaching conditional or biconditional definitions.

  • Math: In a normal year, this may seem strange.  Whether students are in the classroom or not Mrs. Hoxie is teaching with the same enthusiasm

  • Large Animal Science: On Thursday, Ms. Gagne’s senior Equine Industry class hosted guest Randy Larivee from Horsemen’s Ltd. We purchased a driving harness and cart for our miniature horse Pip from Horsemen’s Ltd. and Randy was kind enough to come out and teach our students about fitting a harness and cart to a horse.

  • Large Animal Science:Ms. Gagne’s sophomore Equine Science students practiced their equine handling skills on Tuesday.

  • Small Animal Science:  Ms. Blanchettes’s Senior Small Animal majors performed daily health checks on our reptiles, birds and small animals on Thursday.  Daily handling of our animals is important for their social wellbeing (and ours too).

  • Small Animal Science: Ms. Blanchette’s sophomore Small Animal majors are practicing their grooming skills today on some staff dogs.  Social distancing has changed up how we have to do things, but not what we do!  Our sophomore students have participated in a COVID-19 Grooming safety training that they are putting to good use.

Firewood for Sale

As the year begins again, the arbor program will once again be selling firewood for our student account. All sales will be contactless and all customers must wear masks. It is the same $200/cord as last year and you must arrange to pick it up. We will load it for you but you must supply the vehicle. The average full size pickup bed holds roughly a half cord. Payment will be expected upon the acceptance of wood. Checks are preferred and can be made out to B.C.A.H.S with student arbor in the memo. Please direct all inquiries to Mr. Cook (SCook@bcahs.com). The wood is all seasoned and ready to burn this year. It is a mix of hardwood (mostly oak with some maple and cherry mixed in) that can be used for indoor stoves and fireplaces. The sale will be on a first come first serve basis.

Bristol Aggie PTO Apparel

BA Swag - The Bristol Aggie Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is pleased to announce the resumption of spirit wear sales.   On the high school’s website, Parent Resources page, you can find the Bristol Aggie PTO and apparel links.

For those that do not have a student physically present at the school, the website site and delivery solution cannot currently be supported.   The PTO maintains a small, physical inventory, but lacks volunteers to support robust physical apparel sales off school grounds.  If interested in purchasing items, please contact the Apparel Orders and Questions - ptoapparel@bcahs.comThese would require coordination for you to pick up with our PTO team.

The PTO welcomes volunteers, particularly there is a need for an Apparel Coordinator(s) to help lead the website solution and expand apparel solutions.  Our vision includes adapting new opportunities to serve the community that cannot utilize the new order fulfillment and distribution methods, managing our physical inventory and expanding the offerings.  Please check us out https://sites.google.com/bcahs.com/bristol-aggie-pto/home

Nurse Update: The following letter was sent to families on Thursday:

It is my sincere hope that this letter finds you well.  I write to inform you to update you regarding our school nurse.  Ms. Courville resigned on October 5th and accepted another position.  Ms. Courville was able to transition with our substitute nurse, Ms. Anderson who is a certified RN (BSN).  Ms. Anderson will be our nurse until further notice while we prepare and conduct a thorough search for a qualified candidate.   Our procedure to contact the school nurse will remain the same.  You can contact Ms. Anderson at EAnderson@bcahs.com (or subnurse@bcahs.com) if your child is sick or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Join GSA to watch Corpse Bride together on Wednesday October 28! (Virtually, of course.)

Picture Day on Monday and Tuesday

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are now open for scheduling.  See directions below

The Parent-Portal is now open for signups.  We sent out an email on Wednesday (see previous email) informing you of our new process.  We had originally scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences for Thursday, October 15th (yesterday), but due to the pandemic, we had to delay the event in order to create a safe way for us to meet virtually.  The new date for Parent-Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, October 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm.  In order to sign up for a conference this year, it will be different from what we used the last few years.  Scheduling a conference remotely is a new venture for us, but we wanted to keep this avenue of communication open for parents and teachers. Each virtual conference will still be 8 minutes in duration.   Parents will need to sign up with their child’s teachers using Google Classroom & Google Calendar.  Please take note this is not a PowerSchool parent portal for grades. You will need to conduct this process using your child’s bcahs.com email address and logging into your child’s Google Classroom for each teacherIf you have any questions, please let me know (KBraga@bcahs.com).

Here are the directions to sign up for parent teacher conferences:

1) Have your child login to each teacher’s Google Classroom.  You will be able to find the link to register for Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The link will be in the stream in Google Classroom

2) Once you click on the link in the stream, you will be brought to the teacher’s calendar where you will be able to see only the available time slots available. Once you click on the time slot, it will register the name associated with the email address.  Add your name to the description box to help with identification.

3) Once you make an appointment, you will receive a confirmation window box (see below).  Please repeat for each teacher by logging into their Google Classroom.

Unfortunately, we are not able to fulfill all requests in one meeting.  We will be hosting another Parent-Teacher conference which will be determined at a later date.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (KBraga@bcahs.com).
