Aggie Weekly- October 16th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

This week was a short week as normally we would be hosting our annual Fall Show this weekend.  Although we were not able to host the event this year, we will bring it back next year bigger and better than ever! Next year we will be able to show off our new facilities to our community while showcasing our student talent.  We encourage our students to continue to work hard this year as we continue to learn and grow through our hybrid learning model.

Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are now open for scheduling.  See directions below

The Parent-Portal is now open for signups.  We sent out an email on Wednesday (see previous email) informing you of our new process.  We had originally scheduled Parent-Teacher Conferences for Thursday, October 15th (yesterday), but due to the pandemic, we had to delay the event in order to create a safe way for us to meet virtually.  The new date for Parent-Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, October 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm.  In order to sign up for a conference this year, it will be different from what we used the last few years.  Scheduling a conference remotely is a new venture for us, but we wanted to keep this avenue of communication open for parents and teachers. Each virtual conference will still be 8 minutes in duration.   Parents will need to sign up with their child’s teachers using Google Classroom & Google Calendar.  Please take note this is not a PowerSchool parent portal for grades. You will need to conduct this process using your child’s bcahs.com email address and logging into your child’s Google Classroom for each teacherIf you have any questions, please let me know (KBraga@bcahs.com).

Here are the directions to sign up for parent teacher conferences:

1) Have your child login to each teacher’s Google Classroom.  You will be able to find the link to register for Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 29th from 6:00-8:00 pm. The link will be in the stream in Google Classroom

2) Once you click on the link in the stream, you will be brought to the teacher’s calendar where you will be able to see only the available time slots available. Once you click on the time slot, it will register the name associated with the email address.  Add your name to the description box to help with identification.

3) Once you make an appointment, you will receive a confirmation window box (see below).  Please repeat for each teacher by logging into their Google Classroom.

Unfortunately, we are not able to fulfill all requests in one meeting.  We will be hosting another Parent-Teacher conference which will be determined at a later date.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (KBraga@bcahs.com).

Getting the Most out of Virtual Classes:

Ms. Szurley and her freshman utilized Nearpod this past week to post evidence from “The Most Dangerous Game.” Students then took this evidence and used it in their writing assignments!

Firewood for Sale

As the year begins again, the arbor program will once again be selling firewood for our student account. All sales will be contactless and all customers must wear masks. It is the same $200/cord as last year and you must arrange to pick it up. We will load it for you but you must supply the vehicle. The average full size pickup bed holds roughly a half cord. Payment will be expected upon the acceptance of wood. Checks are preferred and can be made out to B.C.A.H.S with student arbor in the memo. Please direct all inquiries to me. The wood is all seasoned and ready to burn this year. It is a mix of hardwood (mostly oak with some maple and cherry mixed in) that can be used for indoor stoves and fireplaces. The sale will be on a first come first serve basis.

Teacher Professional Development: On Friday, students had the day off from school as we usually host our annual Fall Show, however, our faculty were hard at work preparing and adjusting lessons for hybrid learning.  We also provided breakfast as a symbol of our appreciation for their hard work.

Student Services

We all know that maintaining connections with others is an important piece for everyone especially in the current circumstances. Please click here to read an article on “Friendships During COVID” that may be helpful when discussing this with your student.
