Aggie Weekly- November 13th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

We hope that you enjoyed a short week and reached out to a family member, neighbor, friend, or anyone else to thank them for their service.  We are fortunate to have service men and women who volunteer to fight for our freedoms.

On another note Quarter 1 ends next Friday, November 20th.  Please check PowerSchool and ensure you are caught up on your grades. Our make-up policy is one week from when the assignment was provided.  If you have any questions about your grades, please contact your teacher.

In the Classroom

  • Animal Science: Mrs. Bosworth’s junior large animal class, they took advantage of the  70s and sunny weather for our November “Poultry Processing Lab” that was held last week. Students learned the fundamentals of how to process poultry with a focus on animal welfare, human consumption, and avian anatomy. Students had an opportunity to participate in various methods of feather removal, dissection, and how to make common cuts of meat such as breast, drumsticks, thighs, and wings. They discussed sustainable methods of raising poultry and why understanding and advocating for where your food comes from makes you a better steward for our planet.

  • Animal Science: On Monday, Johnson And Wales Professor Erin Cardea presenting virtually to Ms. Gagne's senior Equine Industry class on the topic of the benefits of Equine Assisted Therapies.

  • Large Animal Science: On Tuesday, in Ms. Gagne’s sophomore Equine Science class participated in a lab on the cleaning of different barn materials.

Senior Floriculture:

Students in flori researched cultural weddings and traditions and had to create a centerpiece expressing their findings.

Egyption Wedding: The Egyptian wedding ceremony starts with a car parade with wedding decorations of flowers and ribbons. When the bride and groom reach the hotel they are received by a “Zaffa” (procession), another human parade of belly dancers and drummers. Christian couples celebrate their marriage in a church conducted by a priest with prayers and readings from the Bible.

Russian Wedding: The bride and groom have the option to have a traditional ceremony in a church. In Russian, it is called the venchanie. The wedding ceremony takes place in a church and is divided into two parts: the Betrothal and the Crowning. The service traditionally takes place in the morning after the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, during which the wedding rings were blessed by being placed on the Holy Table (altar).

Brazilian Wedding: A wedding celebration in Brazil has loud music, songs, laughter, and wild dances, namely Samba. A wedding continues until late night and is filled with fun, noise and an abundance of colorful costumes.

Chinese Wedding:It is Chinese tradition for the bride to wear a red dress, called a qipao and to cover her face with a red veil on the wedding day. In Chinese culture, red symbolizes happiness, prosperity and good luck.

Junior Floriculture: Students in Jr Flori learn how to make a bridal bouquet for the first time. Floriculture has some pretty talented students!!!

  • Animal Science: Ms. Gagne's Sophomore Equine Science class participating in different learning stations today in the horse barn. Our virtual learners were able to "join" them too! #BAPride
