Aggie Weekly- April 1st

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

Today marks the end of quarter 3, which means that we are 75% through with the school year.  We want to remind students to remain focused for the last quarter of school to ensure they are promoted to the next grade level, and seniors are able to walk at graduation.  Stay tuned for more information.

This week’s HIGH 5 CLUB Senior of Week-ALYSSA JAGLOWSKI

April is Autism Acceptance Month

Here at Bristol Agricultural High School we pride ourselves on acceptance of students on the Autism Spectrum as well as all students who are Neurodiverse.

What is Autism Acceptance?

Autism acceptance means celebrating diversity by recognizing that Autistic people are different and not less, thriving as equally valid and valuable members of our community. Autism acceptance invites us to recognize that we all have strengths and weaknesses. Sharing mutual support and respecting each person's individual differences are just some of the ways we can accept each other and celebrate diversity.

#TeachMrBraga Videos: We did not have any new videos this week, so we wanted to share our collection so far this year.  We look forward to continuing these videos throughout the year.

BREAKFAST/LUNCH 2022-2023

We would like to communicate the upcoming change to the state's school lunch program for the 2022-2023 school year.  The Department of Education's Office for Food and Nutrition Programs recently sent districts a message about Congress not extending universal free meals past June 30, 2022.   Starting July 1, 2022 all schools will return to the National School Lunch Program.

For our next school year, free and reduced-price meals will only be offered to students directly certified for these meals or approved through a household application. Families will need to complete a free and reduced lunch form that will be sent over the summer.

WBZ News Radio Article: Attleboro Arts Museum Flower Show Returns From Pandemic Hiatus (By Kyle Bray)

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — After a two-year pandemic hiatus, a springtime staple is back in the city of Attleboro.

The Attleboro Arts Museum's Flower Show is back with seven displays of floral and landscaping exhibits, local art, and live music. The theme for this year's show was animal habitats, with displays featuring flamingos, bunnies, and polar bears.

Mim Brooks Fawcett, the museum's executive director, told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe it felt great to have people back enjoying the displays after missing the last two years because of the pandemic.

"We're just happy to have the show up and running again," she said. "But the biggest gift I think is just how happy our guests are."

One guest came from Norfolk to see the show and said it was a great rainy day pick-me-up.

"It's got a good representation of local artwork," she said. "The floral displays are really nice to see on a rainy March day."

This year's event features displays from Briggs Nursery in Attleboro, the Bristol County Agricultural High School Floriculture Program in Rehoboth, Flowers by the Station in Attleboro, Helping Hands Florist in Plainville, Nolan’s Flowers & Gifts in North Attleborough, Oracle Landscape & Lindsey Epstein Pottery in Tiverton, RI, and Rosebud Florist from Pawtucket, RI.

Fawcett said the event is a great way to kick off spring.

"It's a really nice sensory experience," she said. "It signifies spring."

The show runs until March 27 and has limits on capacity because of the pandemic. Visitors can attend the show during set time slots.

In the Classroom

  • Flori: The senior students participated in the annual Attleboro Art Museum Show.  The theme this year was Animal Habitats.  The seniors decided to highlight the Right Whale as their animal. The Right Whales are the rarest of all whales.  They created educational handouts and a whale tail splashing into the ocean at sunset. They used a wide variety of flowers and foliages to create their “Whale Watch” experience.

  • Flori: Juniors harvested spring flowers and practiced making handheld bouquets and wrapping techniques.

  • Small Animal Science: On Thursday, small animal science students learned about chickens!

2022 Congressional Art Competition

We are pleased to invite your students to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute and the Congressional Arts Caucus to promote artistry and creative thought in students around the country. We invite high school students (grades 9-12) from every town in the district to submit one piece of artwork, which will be judged by local artists. One winning piece will be displayed at the Capitol for a year. More than 650,000 high school students have participated since the program’s inception in 1982, and our office is proud to continue fostering and recognizing artistic talent in the Fourth District.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 29, 2021 at 5:00 PM. The categories for artworks include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media pieces, computer-generated art, and photography; all works must be two-dimensional and no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep, including a frame. We request that students send or drop off their artwork to either our Newton or Attleboro office. Our Newton office is located at 29 Crafts Street Suite 375, Newton, MA 02458. Our Attleboro office is located at 8 North Main Street Suite 200, Attleboro, MA 02703

A panel of local artists and art professionals from the district will be chosen to judge the works submitted. They will choose a winner from each of the categories. From these winners, the panel will then choose a Best in Show that will be honored at an annual Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. and displayed in the Capitol for a year. The winners will be announced at the Teen Art Expo event. The Expo is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 21st at 11:00 AM at the Attleboro Arts Museum. A formal invitation will follow.

Important rules and guidelines have been attached below. Feel free to reach out to Kevin O’Neil or Jenna Massoud in our office at 617-332-3333 or email us with any questions at Kevin.O’Neil@mail.house.gov or Jenna.Massoud@mail.house.gov.
