Aggie Weekly- January 31st

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:
Today marks the first day that grades will be updated in Term 3. Please check your PowerSchool. Starting on Monday, all seniors will be enrolled in our Failure is NOT an Option program. Please see below for more information.

Safety Protocols:

As part of Bristol County Agricultural High School’s Drug Prevention program, Dighton Police and BCAHS administration requested assistance from the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, to conduct a search using K-9 dogs. Today at 8:25 am Mr. Braga instituted BA Security Protocols for a Shelter in Place. 8 K-9 dogs swept hallways, random classrooms, and the locker rooms. Once the Stay in Place concluded, the K-9 units went into the parking lots to continue to search. At 9:03 am Mr. Braga ended the Shelter in Place. No contraband was found during our search. We appreciate everyone's patience and dedication to safety.

Attention Seniors
Good Morning Students and Parents of the Class 2020,

We are reaching out to students and families to inform you regarding a new pilot program titled, “Failure is NOT an Option. We are starting this program now due to the fact that seniors tend to coast until graduation and develop poor habits. This new pilot program will be commencing on Monday, February 3, 2020. The Failure is NOT an Option Program is aimed to make sure that your student has the best opportunity to succeed academically and graduate on Thursday, May 28th. We will be piloting this program with the senior class only, as their grades are pertinent to graduation. Graduation is only 70 days away and even though the end is near, many students develop the “senioritis” tendency and risk not graduating.

Starting on Monday, February 3rd, we will run a report in PowerSchool to verify that students remain in good academic standing. We will run these reports every two weeks (to align with teachers updating their gradebooks). Once the report is completed in PowerSchool, any student who is not passing all of their courses at the time of the report, will be automatically enrolled in the Failure is NOT an Option program. The program will require your student to attend extra help on Wednesday for the class/teacher that your child is currently failing. They will also be assigned to the next available Saturday School to be afforded more time to complete missing work. If a student is able to make up assignments before the assigned Saturday School, they will be excused from it.

The Failure is NOT an Option Program is not optional. Please see the attached letter below for more details. On Monday, any student that does not meet our academic standing will receive the letter below. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Brian R. Higgins

Assistant Principal

In the Classroom:
  • Flori: Juniors in Mrs. Chevalier’s class were creating freestyle arrangements! #BAPRIDE

  • Flori: Our senior class had the pleasure to work with Amber and CJ on their wedding flowers. The wedding took place in September. Amber and CJ saw the students work at the previous fall show and wanted the students to create their flower pieces. We received a very thoughtful thank you card and thought we would share some of the professionalism of our students.

“Words truly cannot describe our gratitude for all of the hard work and dedication put forth by you and your students with our wedding flowers. They were more beautiful than ever imagined and we are still receiving compliments about the uniqueness and professionalism displayed by your students, work. Each piece was breathtaking and balanced, putting a visual to the term perfection. Your students truly are gifted and we cannot thank you all enough!”

FLU FACTS/INFORMATION: The flu is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. Although the flu affects everyone, children tend to get it more often than adults. The season for the flu is usually from November to April with most cases occurring between late December and early March.

The flu is often confused with the common cold, but flu symptoms tend to develop quickly (usually 1 to 4 days after a person is exposed to the flu virus) and are usually more severe than the typical sneezing and stuffiness of a cold.

Symptoms of the Flu may include:

Fever Chills Headache

Muscle aches Dizziness Loss of appetite

Runny nose Nausea vomiting Weakness

Tiredness Cough Sore throat

Ear infection Diarrhea

Symptoms can last for a week or two. The flu is very contagious. It is spread by coughing or sneezing into the air. People who are infected with the flu are contagious as long as they show symptoms (most of the time that means about a week for adults, but for children it can mean up to two weeks).

Ways to Prevent The Flu:

· To have the flu shot if your pediatrician feels you should have it.

· Wash your Hands thoroughly and frequently

· Never pick up used tissues.

· Never share cups and eating utensils.

· Stay home from work or school when you’re sick with the flu.

· Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

How Do You Treat The Flu?

· Stay home from school

· Drink lots of fluids.

· Get plenty of sleep and take it easy.

· Call your doctor for a fever or achiness so that he/she can let you know what to take to make your child feel better.

· The student may return to school when he/she is both fever free (temperature not higher than 100 F) and has not taken Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin) for 24 hours.
