Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:
This week we got a true taste of the spring weather and we hope to carry that trend in the coming weeks. We want to remind students that we are still required to be 6 feet apart during our mask breaks as we want to continue to offer in-person learning. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead this weekend.

Spring Increase to In-Person Learning: We are still on track for our increase (4 days a week, virtual Wednesday’s) to in-person learning starting on Monday, April 12th. The Department of Education (DESE) has released guidelines mandating K-8 students return to 5 days in April. The DESE did state that it would notify high school districts in late April when they were mandated to be 5 days in-person. As you know as part of our Spring Increase to In-Person Learning Plan, we were already planning on 5 days in May/June. As we receive updated information, we will notify our school community.
AT RISK/IN DANGER OF FAILING FOR THE YEAR- ATTENTION STUDENTS AND PARENTS: On Monday, students and parents were informed if their child was in danger of failing two or more classes for the year. We have created an intervention program for those students as well as students that are on the cusp of failing for the year. Please see the letter that was sent home to families on Monday. We encourage parents to continuously monitor their child’s grades in PowerSchool to ensure you are aware of their academic standing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school counselor.
Dear Parent(s),
Your child has been identified as “At Risk” for failing for the year in the following course(s) listed below. We understand that this year has been a challenge for students, parents, and our school community as we have tried to adapt our educational model during this pandemic. With many of the programs traditionally in place for us to provide early intervention to students during the typical school year not available, we have created an intervention program to provide additional support to promote your child’s success. Depending on your child’s level of need and circumstance, we created three different levels of intervention and programming. We are requiring that your child enroll in order to be in good academic and vocational-agricultural standing. Each Response to Intervention (RTI) level is on a continuum and as students progress through the program, they may move from Level 3 to Level 2 if they meet the requirements (see criteria below). This is not a punishment, but instead an Intervention Program to ensure your child’s success. In order for these interventions to work effectively, we will need your support. We will be scheduling a time to meet with students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administration to discuss next steps.
Level Three Action Plan: This is our most intensive intervention plan. Students were identified if they are at risk of failing two (2) or more classes for the school year. Students are required to pass all of their classes each year in order to be on track for graduation. Based on this criteria, the following interventions will be implemented:
Social-Emotional Support: Minimum of two check-ins with a school counselor. Additional appointments will be made as necessary
In-Person Learning Plan: Students will report to school four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) for in-person instruction. Students will attend their normally scheduled classes in-person on their in-person learning days and during their remote days will report to the RTI classroom where students will be working with a teacher to monitor their classroom interaction and participation.
EX: Seniors: Follow hybrid schedule on Monday and Thursday. On Tuesday and Friday, students will report to the RTI classroom.
EXTENDS: Students will be required to attend EXTENDS on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45-4:30 to complete homework assignments and make up any assignments if possible. The late bus is available.
Saturday School: If the student is not passing all of their classes, they will be enrolled in the Failure is NOT an Option program. Saturday School is scheduled for every two Saturdays and students will be automatically enrolled until their grades are passing.
Next Step: Starting on Monday, March 8th, our school counselors will reach out to parents to set up a meeting to discuss this action plan.
Student Success Plan
Additional Information:
EXTENDS: is currently being offered on Monday and Tuesday. Starting on Monday, March 15th, student attendance will be mandatory. Our first Thursday EXTENDS will be Thursday, March 18th.
In-Person Learning: Due to the urgency of the student’s academic standing, we will implement this plan ahead of our expected Q4 in-person learning plan. Students will be required to attend in-person learning four days a week starting Monday, March 15th.
Saturday School: The next Saturday School that will require students to be present will be March 12th from 8:30-12:30.
Level Two Action Plan: This is our second most intensive intervention plan. Students were identified if they are at risk of failing one (1) class for the school year. Students are required to pass all of their classes each year in order to be on track for graduation. Based on this criteria, the following interventions will be implemented:
Social-Emotional Support: Weekly check-in with a school counselor during EXTENDS. Additional appointments will be made as necessary
In-Person Learning Plan: Students will continue in their Quarter 3 learning plan.
EXTENDS: Students will be required to attend EXTENDS on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45-4:30 to complete homework assignments and make up any assignments if possible. The late bus is available.
Next Step: Starting on Monday, March 22nd, our school counselors will reach out to parents to set up a meeting to discuss this action plan.
Student Success Plan
Additional Information:
EXTENDS: is currently being offered on Monday and Tuesday. Starting on Monday, March 15th, your attendance will be mandatory. Our first Thursday EXTENDS will be Thursday, March 18th.
In-Person Learning: Starting on Monday, April 12th, all students will have the opportunity to be in school for in-person learning for four days a week.
Saturday School: The next Saturday School that will require your attendance will be March 12th from 8:30-12:30.
Level One Action Plan: This is our least intensive intervention plan. Students were identified if they were trending to fail one (1) or more classes for the school year. Currently your child is passing for the year, however, if their grades continue to decline, they will be automatically enrolled in one of the levels listed above. Students are required to pass all of their classes each year in order to be on track for graduation. Based on this criteria, the following interventions will be implemented:
Social-Emotional Support: Weekly student reflection sheet to be monitored by school counselors. Depending on the reflection a meeting with a counselor may be involved.
In-Person Learning Plan: Students will continue in their Quarter 3 learning plan.
EXTENDS: Students will be recommended to attend EXTENDS on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45-4:30 to complete homework assignments and make up any assignments if possible. The late bus is available.
Next Step: We encourage students and parents to monitor their current grades to ensure that they do not fall behind. If you would like to schedule an appointment to meet with a school counselor, please do so (Grades 9 &11 KCosta@bcahs.com & Grades 10 &12 KKochan@bcahs.com).
Additional Information:
EXTENDS: Currently being offered on Monday and Tuesday. Starting on Monday, March 8th, your attendance will be recommended. Our first Thursday EXTENDS will be Thursday, March 18th.
In-Person Learning: Starting on Monday, April 12th, all students will have the opportunity to be in school for in-person learning for four days a week.
Saturday School: If your grades fall below a 60, you will be required to attend the Failure is NOT an option program. If the student’s grades continue to trend into the failing category, they will be assigned to the Failure is NOT an Option program. The next Saturday School is scheduled for March 12th from 8:30-12:30.
Our goal is to ensure that your child is successful not only this year, but for many years to come. Due to the potential gaps in learning, we believe that these intervention levels are the best course of action. As stated above, RTI levels are on a continuum and therefore as students demonstrate progress, they will be assigned to corresponding levels. We cannot stress this enough, this is not a punishment, but instead an Intervention Program to ensure your child’s success. This wrap around approach of support will provide students with opportunities to be successful and meet school expectations. We look forward to working with you and your child to their student success plans. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Sincerely,
Kevin P. Braga
