Aggie Weekly-May 27th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

Commemorating Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, the red poppy is a symbol of remembrance for the men and women who died defending our freedom.

Some ways to honor this holiday:

Honor and Respect

Visit a local Veterans cemetery. Almost every community has some sort of a war memorial.

Celebrate with a Parade

Go to a Memorial Day parade or ceremony.

Educate with History

Watch a movie and learn some history about famous battles of the past. The History Channel and The Military Channel have many shows that might fit this bill.

2022-2023 School Calendar

Updated Graduation Letter (5.26.22)

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2022,

Graduation is rapidly approaching and we are making final preparations for this memorable event, which is set for Thursday, June 2nd at 6:30 pm.  As we previously stated (letter dated April 4th), we are planning to host graduation on our baseball field.   If weather impacts an evening ceremony, then we will have a rain date (see below for updated information and dates).  Currently there are no Board of Health restrictions in terms of capacity, however, each graduate will be given 4 tickets. The tickets will give you access to the seating on the field.  If you have more than four guests, they will be able to stand/sit along the fence (see graphic below), and they can bring their own seat if they prefer.  We will provide the tickets at the mandatory graduation rehearsals on Tuesday, May 31st.  Please see the detailed schedule below for seniors for the next week.

As we look ahead to next week’s graduation ceremony, we are constantly monitoring the forecast.  At Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting, I requested a second rain date for graduation.  Currently the forecast for Thursday, June 2nd’s graduation is 32% chance of rain, therefore we will continue to monitor the forecast closely. New England weather it is always difficult to predict and we want to prepare accordingly.

Original Date: Thursday, June 2nd @ 6:30

1st Rain Date: Friday, June 3rd @ 6:30

2ne Rain Date: Wednesday, June 1st @ 6:30

  • We will only use Wednesday, if rain is forecasted for BOTH Thursday and Friday.  We will make the call on Tuesday, May 31st.

In terms of a layout for graduation see the sketches below that layout graduation guidelines and click here for the parking plan. Students are NOT allowed to decorate their caps for graduation. To help prepare for graduation, we wanted to provide families with as much information regarding logistics as possible.  Handicap and elderly seating will be available (limited quantity) on the field facing the graduates (please click here to complete the elderly/handicap seating accommodations request).  We will be providing transportation from the parking lot to the seating area on the field. Parents will be facing the graduates (overlooking the farm) on the field, and graduates will be facing home plate.  Graduates will walk in between the family section (20 ft of separation) to their seats.

Graduation rehearsal is mandatory. If you do not participate in the graduation rehearsal you will not be able to walk at graduation.  We are using this date to help distribute 4 tickets (1 vehicle per family/graduate is highly recommended) to each graduate and yearbooks will also be distributed at this time.  Students will be reporting to the high school at 5:00 pm to conduct a mini rehearsal on graduation day.

Parking is limited on the south side of the campus that cannot accommodate all guests, so we are encouraging that graduates and families use the same vehicle to come to the ceremony.  There will be handicap parking along the tree line at Gilbert Hall and the student parking lot has approximately 90 spaces (combined).   Additional parking will be at the hayfield.

In the Classroom- NRM

MassWildlife was on campus this Tuesday May 24, 2022 to band the Bald Eagle eaglets with

the NRM Juniors and Seniors. A MassWildlife staff member climbed the tree that the nest was

in so that they could place the eaglets into a bag so that it could be safely brought down the tree

for processing and data collection.  As the climber approached the nest, it was decided to leave the

eaglets alone as they appeared to be about 9 weeks old. MassWildlife staff were concerned that at

this later stage of development the eaglets could try to fly from the nest when the climber got too

close as they will fledge around 10-12 weeks old. The smaller of the two eaglets did try to fly, but

it was safely recovered, uninjured, and was able to be banded. The eaglet was given two bands

attached using rivetts, on each leg: a silver federal band and an orange state band (each state has

a different color band). The bands are used to identify the eagles and keep track of their population.

The eaglet was then placed back into the bag, weighted (9 lbs) and brought back up the tree to its nest.

On Friday Morning 5 FFA students visited Dighton Elementary School to give a presentation on Agriculture.  They taught the Kindergarten class all about what's in an egg, chick development and more.  The students loved having us bring real live animals to their classroom.

Spring Vocational Advisory: Two times a year, we are required to meet with industry professionals from each program which is called an advisory.  On Wednesday, we treated them to a dinner in the Student Commons to thank them for their time that they have provided us each year.

Activities and Athletics

  • Beekeepers:   The Apiary Club went out again this week to inspect the hives and maintain the bees.  All 7 hives are thriving.  The bees have been eating, building comb and storing pollen.  In the next few weeks we hope to see eggs and baby bees.  Anyone is welcome to join in and help out.  Listen for announcements during assembly or see Mr. Surdi for more details. No experience is needed and we have plenty of bee suits.

Mr. Braga outstandingly finished a Half Marathon this weekend!  Capturing a moment on his cell phone, of some fan support along the race as you see pictured a marked up round hay bale, “Go Mr. Braga” to root him on!  Congratulations Mr. Braga!

JV Softball: The JV softball team celebrated their final home game.
