Welcome to another school year. We look forward to seeing you all at our Parent/Teacher Nights taking place on Thursday, September 20, 2018 and Thursday, November 15, 2018. Our September evening will be structured as a welcome with an opportunity to hear from your student’s teachers. Please bring your student with you as you will be following his/her Thursday “A week” schedule as outlined below. All Physical Education classes will be addressed during our welcome in the gymnasium. Freshmen Vocational Teachers will be introduced during periods 1 & 2 in the gymnasium. Unless indicated otherwise, please follow your student’s schedule and room assignments on the next page. Please be sure to check the portal regularly as important information from our Student Services Department is also posted throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you on September 20th.

Volunteer Opportunity:

The Bristol Aggie Educational Foundation, Inc. is hosting a Farm to Table Feast here on campus. If you are not familiar, the foundation’s purpose is to support the students, faculty, and administration of Bristol County Agricultural High School by raising funds from private resources to build on tradition, instill pride in the Aggie and cultivate excellence for their students. The foundation awarded over $10,000 to students and clubs last year. Some of these scholarships went to students to purchase equipment for start up businesses or courses for a program to learn something new that is outside of the "traditional" curriculum.

We are looking for student volunteers on Saturday, September 22. If you are interested please complete this FORM. This fundraiser is the foundation's largest of the year. We are looking for students to help starting at 4:00PM on Saturday and ending around 9:00PM. You will be helping the caterer set up tables, transport food and or help with directing the folks to parking. Easy-peasy. These hours can be counted toward any community service requirements that you may have and you will get an amazing dinner at the same time (yes, they will feed you). Even if you can't stay the whole time, a little bit helps. Any questions, please contact Mrs. VanRotz (RVanRotz@bcahs.com).

Student Services- College Visit Season is Here!!!

Student Services has been busy getting a great college lineup for the Fall. We are aiming for Juniors and some Seniors who are still on the fence with their college choices to come!

Our upcoming September schedule looks like this!

We set it up through a Google Doc so that you may click on each college’s name and sign up for the presentation. Super easy!! The link to the Google Doc is HERE!

PSATs

We will be hosting the PSAT's on Wednesday October 10th, 2018 during the school day. The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships for grade 11 students only. The PSAT won’t count towards college admissions applications, but it is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. The PSAT has two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.

We still have some slots available but those students who are interested must come to Student Services and sign up as soon as possible. It costs $16.00 in cash and is a great investment to prepare for the SATs.

If you would like more information about the PSATs please check out the CollegeBoard website or visit Student Services.

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Program

Dear Bristol Aggie Families,

As a reminder, we are instituting a state mandated screening program in tenth grade related to the use of alcohol, marijuana and other substances. The Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program screening process is part of our annual state mandated screening program. All screenings are interview based and will be conducted in confidential individual sessions by our Student Services staff. The screenings will take place on September 25th and 26th. We will utilize the CRAFFT II screening tool which is the most commonly used substance use screening tool for adolescents in Massachusetts.

If you would like to opt your child out of this screening, please provide the school with written notification. Please contact our Adjustment Counselor Beth Boudreau at 508-669-6744 x.163 or bboudreau@bcahs.com if you have any questions about this program. In addition, screening is voluntary and students may choose not to answer any or all of the screening questions.

We encourage all parents/guardians to talk with their child about substance use. For ideas on how to begin these conversations and other helpful information, please refer to the Substance Use Screening portion of the Student Services page on the Bristol Aggie website for references and information.

SBIRT Survey: We would like to invite your child to participate in two short electronic surveys to evaluate their behaviors, attitudes, and beliefs regarding alcohol and drug use and related harms. To view the survey, click here.
