Aggie Weekly- May 22nd

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

This week it was great to see some of our students as they came on campus to collect their belongings.  We appreciate everyone’s patience with helping unite students with their belongings.  We look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Class of 2021, 2022, and 2023 Student Engagement Expectations:

We wanted to provide you with some information to assist with our expectations of student engagement during our distance learning.  Our staff has been in constant communication with students and families to ensure that students are engaged for the remainder of the year.  In order for a student to receive credit, the student must be engaged at minimum of 50% of the activities assigned.  We encourage our students to complete all assignments to the best of their ability.  Non completion will lead to learning gaps next year, and may result in a student failing next year. Please contact your teacher with any questions.

Graduation 2020: On Tuesday the BCHAS Administration made a proposal to the Board of Trustees on a new graduation date for the Class of 2020.  Graduation will take place on Saturday, July 18th at 12:00 pm. Below are three scenarios we are considering and may implement depending on the regulations established by the Governor and the local Board of Health.

  • Scenario 1:  If restrictions do not allow us to congregate on Saturday, July 18th, then we are considering a virtual graduation.  In this instance, we would be broadcasting graduation via the internet.  Students would be home and we would be broadcasting the following:

    • Entrance music/procession

    • Commencement Speeches

      • Pledge of Allegiance- Sage Miranda

      • National Anthem- Hannah Johnson

      • Class President- Hannah Johnson

      • Valedictorian-Alexis Kublin

      • Assistant Superintendent/Principal

      • Superintendent

    • Presentation of diplomas slideshow

      • Pictures taken on May 22nd

    • Turn the Tassel

    • Final remarks

  • Scenario 2: If restrictions allow us to congregate in small groups on Saturday, July 18th, then we are considering a combination virtual and drive thru graduation.  In this instance, we would be broadcasting graduation via the internet and give students by major an opportunity to come on campus and graduate.

    • Part I: Virtual Commencement:

      • Entrance music/procession

      • Commencement Speeches

        • Pledge of Allegiance- Sage Miranda

        • National Anthem- Hannah Johnson

        • Class President- Hannah Johnson

        • Valedictorian-Alexis Kublin

        • Assistant Superintendent/Principal

        • Superintendent

    • Part II: Drive-Thru: Each major would have approximately 30 minutes on campus to drive-thru with their family and receive their diplomas. This presentation will be broadcasted live via YouTube.  Click here.

      • Step 1: Vehicles line up in ABC order (see diagram here)

      • Step 2: The graduate will approach the main entrance of Gilbert Hall in their vehicle. The graduate will exit the vehicle.

      • Step 3: When the graduates name and biography is read, the student will cross the stage and receive their diploma.

      • Step 4: Lifetouch will be on campus taking a professional picture of the student as they cross the stage.  Families will also be allowed to take pictures of the graduate crossing the stage.

      • Step 5: Graduate/family exit campus.

  • Scenario 3: If restrictions allow us to congregate in large groups on Saturday, July 18th, then we would work to provide the traditional graduation ceremony outside with all the graduates.  We may still be limited on the amount of guests that will be allowed in this scenario. In addition, we may not be able to accomplish this at Dighton Town Hall, as in previous years, but we are looking into alternatives.  If restrictions are lifted, then we will send more details in the future for a traditional graduation.

Seniors Last Day: On Friday, we hosted our seniors on campus adhering to social distance guidelines.  We collected books, fees, athletic uniforms, while distributing their cap and gowns. We look forward to 2020 Graduation on Saturday, July 18th @ 12:00 pm.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 on completing their last week of high school!

Normally, signing yearbooks would be a big part of this final week of school. Since that cannot happen at the moment, we are offering a new way to pay tribute to our seniors!

We are creating a video montage (or "Tribute") for Bristol Aggie's Class of 2020. We encourage the seniors to include a message for their classmates, as well as parents and guardians, teachers, school staff or anyone who would like to send the Class of 2020 well wishes to participate. It will only take you a minute to film and submit your video. It should make for an unforgettable gift that shares our collective love and appreciation for our seniors! Don't be the last to submit! The deadline is Tuesday, May 26th.

Parent/Student Engagement Pictures: We are requesting students to share (kbraga@bcahs.com) some of the work they are doing at home.  If you are working on an assignment and you want to share your work, please send it along to me so we can keep up the Aggie Weekly classroom updates. Additionally, if you are working on your baseball/softball/LAX swing/skills in your backyard, please share those as well.  Feel free to tweet @BristolAggie if you use Twitter.

  • Freshman Noah Marchesseault rescued a hummingbird this week! The hummingbird was struggling to fly because it had spiderwebs attached to its beak, wings, and feet. Noah cleaned off the spiderwebs and helped calm the bird as it was stunned from the experience. Noah fed the hummingbird mandarin juice as it sat in his hands for 10 minutes before it flew away. Great job, Noah!
