Aggie Weekly- May 8th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

We hope that you and your family are safe and well. With the improvement of the weather it has allowed many to at least get out of the house for a walk or just be outside. We understand many, if not all students who elect to come to Bristol Aggie enjoy the outdoors. We miss our students and look forward to seeing them again soon. Please remember that the date has changed for students to pick up their belongings for the week of May, 18th (see below for more details).

BCAHS Hosts Virtual Trivia Night: Please help us raise money for our BA families affected by COVID 19. All it takes is $5.00 for a chance to play trivia or $15.00 for a chance to play and spin the prize wheel! Venmo donations to @Danielle-Harootian or PayPal Djharootian@gmail.com. In the memo please put #BAPRIDE

This is a great way to be social during this time and raise some funds for our families impacted by COVID-19. Trivia winner gets 10% of total donations while the remainder goes to BA families in need. Enter your name for a chance to play your round of trivia and win some great prizes!

How does this work?

5 people will be chosen to play for the event. Each of those 5 people will have an opportunity to answer 10 questions from 5 potential categories. The person with the highest score at the end of the night will win the prize.

Example: Your name is chosen off the Spin-to-Play wheel and you choose the category "90's One Hit Wonders". You will answer 10 questions about "90's one hit wonders". The next person chosen to play will choose another category and answer their 10 questions, so on and so on.

Who will play?

There are 5 spots available to play trivia per night.

The highest donation will automatically be entered in to play and the other 4 are chosen off of the Spin-to-Play Wheel.

How do I get my name on the Spin-to-Play Wheel?

$5.00 donation earns a wedge on the Spin-to-Play Wheel

$20 donation earns four wedges on the Spin-to-Play Wheel

Another way to win!

A donation of $15 or more earns you a chance to spin the prize wheel which is filled with pretty awesome stuff!

So, a $20 donation will earn you 4 wedges on the Spin-to-Play Wheel and a spin on the Prize Wheel.

Parent/Student Engagement Pictures: We are requesting students to share (kbraga@bcahs.com) some of the work they are doing at home. If you are working on an assignment and you want to share your work, please send it along to me so we can keep up the Aggie Weekly classroom updates. Additionally, if you are working on your baseball/softball/LAX swing/skills in your backyard, please share those as well. Feel free to tweet @BristolAggie if you use Twitter.
  • Ag Mechanics Senior Aly Rego took advantage of the great weather and outdoors this week. She found a new hobby of free face rock climbing! She drove to the Kangamangus Highway and rock climbed 5 miles of waterfalls. Keep up the great work~

STUDENT PICK UP DELAYED 1 WEEK: Starting the week of Monday, May 18th (see detailed schedule below)

Locker Cleanouts: Given the announcement made by Governor Baker on Tuesday, April 21st that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year, we wanted to provide students and staff an opportunity to gather their personal belongings from academic and shop lockers. Due to limitations on how many individuals we can have on campus, we had to create a staggered schedule for students and staff. Please make arrangements to attend school during your designated times. In order to enter the facility all students and staff will be required to wear a face mask/face covering (see below) as the Governor has recommended for all citizens that travel outside their homes.

Safety First: We have designated times for students to gather their belongings at Gilbert Hall. Students will be separated by a minimum of 6 feet. No one other than our students will be allowed in the building. No guests, parents, or any other person, cannot enter the facility. There will be a limit of no more than 10 in Gilbert Hall at any given time. All belongings from outside buildings (Animal Science, Landscape, Ag Mechanics, and Flori) will be collected from lockers and placed into a bag for you to pick up from Gilbert Hall according to the schedule below. If you do not need anything in your locker, please do not come to school. This is not a time to socialize with friends. Please consider the following before coming on campus:
  • In the past 7 days, have you experienced any of the following symptoms of the Coronavirus (fever, tiredness, dry cough, aches and pains, nasal congestion, sore throat, diarrhoea, and runny nose)?
    • If so, please do not come to school.
  • In the past 14 days has anyone in your family/close contacts experienced any symptoms of COVID-19?
    • If family members are experiencing symptoms students and staff should isolate for 14 days to ensure they are not asymptomatically spreading COVID-19 or have recently been infected. Contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
  • Have you or anyone in your family/close contacts been diagnosed with COVID-19?
    • If a laboratory test is not completed to confirm status of infection an individual must be free of fever and improvement in respiratory symptoms for 72 hours AND at least 7 days must have passed since symptoms first appeared. Decision to discontinue isolation should be made by health department and/or primary provider.
  • Have you travelled outside of your home community in the past 14 days?
    • If yes, may not enter school until 14 days have elapsed since leaving the community.
  • Prior to arriving on campus, contact your teacher if you have anything in a classroom that you need to retrieve. Your teacher will place your items in a bag that you can pick up following the schedule below.
Gilbert Hall Student Schedule: Due to the MSBA Project and the road closure, the soonest we can allow for the students to access the campus will be Monday, May 18th
  • Sanitize hands upon entry to school.
  • All students will be required to wear a face covering (see recommendations above)

Senior Activities Letter

May 8, 2020

Dear Class of 2020 families,

We wanted to provide you with information on our plan for the end of the year for the Class of 2020 in regards to the events that come with the conclusion of high school. Our administrative team has met several times to come up with opportunities for our students to be recognized for their accomplishments and celebrated at graduation. Our focus and every decision we made was an attempt to honor the Class of 2020, while keeping our community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, every alternative we propose is not what we have done traditionally. Our plans below are our best attempt at giving seniors the best sendoff they deserve.

Friday, May 22: Book Returns, Obligations, & Cap & Gown

Students will be able to drop off their books from their classes, pay off any outstanding lunch balances, turn in athletic equipment, library books, before they receive their cap & gown. See schedule below for the staggered time when each student will be asked to be at the school building to return materials. All student obligations, library books, lunch balances, etc. must be paid by this time in order to obtain your cap & gown.

  • Student Pick Up\Return Items Schedule:
    • Last name A-D 8:00-9:00 am
    • Last name E-L 9:00-10:00 am
    • Last name M-P 10:00-11:00 am
    • Last name Q-Z 11:00-12:00 pm
  • Graduation Rehearsal
    • Step 1: If all obligations are paid, you will receive your cap and gown.
    • Step 2: Students will put on their cap and gown and rehearse a traditional graduation.
    • Step 3: While on stage, you will have a photo taken with you and your diploma.
    • Step 4: Go outside in front of Gilbert Hall and take a photo with your diploma for a slideshow.
    • Step 5: Return your diploma for graduation day (TBD).
Graduation Scenarios: Graduation will take place. We will hold as close to a traditional ceremony as social distancing guidelines will allow at this time. We have multiple scenarios of what this may look like. We are hoping for a traditional graduation, but want to be prepared for all scenarios. Below are some options we are considering and may implement depending on the regulations established by the Governor and the local Board of Health.
  • Scenario 1: If restrictions do not allow us to congregate, then we are considering a virtual graduation. In this instance, we would be broadcasting graduation via the internet. Students would be home and we would be broadcasting the following:
    • Entrance music/procession
    • Commencement Speeches
      • Pledge of Allegiance- Sage Miranda
      • National Anthem- Hannah Johnson
      • Class President- Hannah Johnson
      • Valedictorian-Alexis Kublin
      • Assistant Superintendent/Principal
      • Superintendent
    • Presentation of diplomas slideshow
      • Pictures taken on May 22nd
    • Turn the Tassel
    • Final remarks
  • Scenario 2: If restrictions allow us to congregate in small groups, then we are considering a combination virtual and drive thru graduation. In this instance, we would be broadcasting graduation via the internet and give students by major an opportunity to come on campus and graduate.
    • Part I: Virtual Commencement:
    • Entrance music/procession
    • Commencement Speeches
      • Pledge of Allegiance- Sage Miranda
      • National Anthem- Hannah Johnson
      • Class President- Hannah Johnson
      • Valedictorian-Alexis Kublin
      • Assistant Superintendent/Principal
      • Superintendent
    • Part II: Drive-Thru: Each major would have approximately 30 minutes on campus to drive-thru with their family and receive their diplomas. This presentation will be broadcasted live via YouTube.
      • Step 1: Vehicles line up in ABC order (see diagram here)
      • Step 2: The graduate will approach the main entrance of Gilbert Hall in their vehicle. The graduate will exit the vehicle.
      • Step 3: When the graduates name and biography is read, the student will cross the stage and receive their diploma.
      • Step 4: Lifetouch will be on campus taking a professional picture of the student as they cross the stage. Families will also be allowed to take pictures of the graduate crossing the stage.
      • Step 5: Graduate/family exit campus.
  • Scenario 3: If restrictions allow us to congregate in large groups, then we would work to provide the traditional graduation ceremony outside with all the graduates. We may still be limited on the amount of guests that will be allowed in this scenario. In addition, we may not be able to accomplish this at Dighton Town Hall, as in previous years, but we are looking into alternatives. If restrictions are lifted, then we will send more details in the future for a traditional graduation.
    • Possible Graduation Dates: Late June-Late July.
      • Original Date: May 28th- Postponed
    • Tentative Dates
      • Scenario 1: Virtual Graduation would have more flexibility in the dates and times.
      • Scenario 2: Combination Virtual-Drive-thru graduation. In order to work with a company to help with the video, it is at least 35 days out from signing a contract.
      • Scenario 3: We would need approximately 2-3 weeks to plan this. However, the concern with waiting until mid-late July is that some students will be entering the military and will not be available to walk at graduation.
Wednesday, May 27th: Awards Night - Time: 6:00 pm- Virtual (link will be sent separately)
Each year we come together to recognize student achievement at our annual Awards Night. Even though we will not be able to provide the students with the awards in person, we still want to recognize their hard work, determination, perseverance, and grit. The many awards and scholarships that will be distributed at Awards Night are just some of the numerous examples of the many successes they have achieved here at Bristol Aggie.

Friday, July 17th: Prom (tentative) - Time: 6:00 p.m.
As of today, we are scheduled to have a combination junior and senior prom at the Holiday Inn, in Taunton. This is a tentative date and, unfortunately, the likelihood of being able to hold a dance of this type, even in July, is still up in the air. We urge seniors not to invest money into this event as it is tentative and may need to be cancelled. Unfortunately, there will be no make-up date for this event beyond July 17.

August: Senior BBQ (tentative)- Yearbook Distribution
If social distancing guidelines permit, we want to try and provide an opportunity for seniors to come together one last time over the summer to sign yearbooks and say goodbye to their classmates. We are planning a FREE BBQ for the Class of 2020 in early August sometime.

We recognize that postponing senior events may not be conducive to students who are leaving the area prior to late July. Anyone who cannot participate in the graduation ceremony should contact Mr. Braga (KBraga@bcahs.com). Arrangements will be made to meet the student, and their family, at the high school building. These students will be encouraged to wear their cap and gown. They will receive their diploma and be allowed to take photos with their family on campus.

This situation is less than ideal. However, in listening to the students, we heard that most students and families hope for a more traditional ceremony than we can provide at this time. Again, depending on social distancing guidelines, we will make a decision on the three options provided. We are hoping to make a decision by the end of May.

We wanted to provide another opportunity to have a virtual meeting with seniors and parents to discuss our plan for the end of the year. The meeting will be on Monday (Waiting Room opens at 4:00). See email for more details.

  • How to use Zoom
    • Go to. www.zoom.us At the top right of the screen, click "Join a Meeting"
    • You will need the following information to join the meeting:
      • Meeting ID: See email for details
      • Password: See email for details
    • You may be asked to create a username (if you do not have a Zoom account). This username is what will be displayed during our meeting.
    • On Monday, starting at 4:00 pm, the “Waiting Room” will open prior to the meeting getting started to help with the transition. Please ensure that your login name is identifiable. I will be screening each member that requests to enter the “Waiting Room.”
    • You can enable/disable video when entering the meeting (see below).
    • Upon entry everyone’s microphone will be muted during the meeting.
    • See below for helpful links

More information on each event will be forthcoming to seniors and their families, as dates get closer. But we wanted to give all of you the dates as early as possible for your own planning purposes. We hope this finds all of you safe and healthy! As always, if you need anything, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Kevin P. Braga

Assistant Superintendent/Principal
