DESE Updated VAX Guidance- Calculating the 80 percent threshold rate:

  • If a school demonstrates a vaccination rate of 80 percent or more of all students and staff in the school through an attestation form submitted to DESE, then vaccinated individuals in that school would no longer be subject to the mask requirement.

  • Collecting proof of vaccination: An individual will be required to demonstrate proof that they have received either the required two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson’s

  • Individual proof of vaccination could include:

    • A signed self-attestation completed by the vaccinated individual or parent/guardian on behalf of the vaccinated student; or

    • Documentation provided to the individual by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health or a health care provider. Documentation may include but is not limited to a COVID-19 vaccination record card or a copy or digital picture of the vaccination record card, or a print-out from the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS).

  • In an attempt to meet this new guidance, we are asking students and staff to submit a copy of their VAX card to Ms. Anderson (EAnderson@bcahs.com

    • If you have misplaced your card, it may be located on your updated physical.

Bristol Aggie grads cross paths: Bristol Aggie graduate George Bancroft  (NRM '17) has been working with Mr. Bastarache (NRM Dept Chair) over the summer with the Taunton River Watershed Alliance (TRWA) as a terrapin technician.  He graduated from UMass this spring and is now working his first full-time job as the Jekyll Island Authority turtle technician.  He will be working in the sea turtle hospital this winter and surveying diamondback terrapins in the spring and summer.

George’s supervisors recently gave him a paper on survey methodology to read prior to his field season.  He was handed a copy of Patty Levasseur's master’s thesis about rapid assessment methods for diamondback terrapins.  Patty (NRM '06) graduated from the Bristol Aggie NRM program in 2006.  She is now working on her Ph.D. expanding her assessment methods and statistical models of turtle populations.  Even 1,000 miles from campus Bristol Aggie graduates cross professional paths.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Feedback Form: We were excited to host over 300 families last week for our Open House.  We heard so much positive feedback from families about meeting our incredible staff and experiencing our campus for the first time in nearly 2 years.  As we continue to adapt to our new normal, we wanted to get your feedback on how we would set up our November 18th Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Please click here to complete the survey if you have not done so already.  So far we have 178 respondents.  THE SURVEY WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3RD at 11:59 pm.

Firewood Sale: The Arbor program will once again be selling firewood for their annual fundraiser. It is $200/cord which is the same as last year and buyers must arrange to pick it up. Arbor students will load it for you but you must supply the vehicle. The average full size pickup bed holds roughly a half cord. Payment will be expected upon the acceptance of wood. Checks are preferred and can be made out to B.C.A.H.S with student arbor in the memo. Please direct all inquiries to Mr. Cook (SCook@bcahs.com). The wood is all seasoned and ready to burn this year. It is a mix of hardwood (mostly oak with some maple and cherry mixed in) that can be used for indoor stoves and fireplaces. The sale will be on a first come first serve basis.

In the Classroom

  • Environmental Engineering: In Ms. Canuel’s Environmental Engineering vocational program, students completed a "Water Filtration Investigation" to test and observe how soil acts as a natural filter. Each team designed and built their own filters using a variety of recycled materials.

Food Services: We wanted to take this time to THANK our food services team.  In a time that many districts are experiencing shortages of food and staff, they have consistently provided us with fresh and healthy meals daily.  THANK YOU!
