Aggie Weekly-May 19th

Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

In the Classroom

Environmental Conservation Department:

Tuesday, May 16, Freshmen Natural Resource Management (NRM) and Environmental Engineering (EE) students caught a common snapping turtle seining in the Taunton River while looking for new additions to the aquariums in the Bristol County Natural History Museum. They caught and kept Banded Killifish, Mummichogs, and a Redbreast Sunfish that you can come see on display.

Thursday, May 18, the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Junior class was visited by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Wildland firefighters. As part of our Forestry course, we completed Wildland Firefighter and FEMA Certification courses (S-190, S-130, L180,  IS-100, and IS-700). We were able to ask questions, use various types of equipment, and conduct tasks that a wildland firefighter would need to perform including creating a fire line, running hose lays, and deploying a fire shelter. We are incrediably grateful for this opportunity to both learn and experience the practical and physical tasks that the Wildland Firefighters do as part of their job.

Landscape Design & Contracting:

The results of the FFA Hardscape CDE held on May 4th were posted this week.  Our “A” team consisting of Leonard Catabia, Tylah Gomes, Marissa Moniz, and Katherine Veenstra received a Silver Award.
