Pearls before Swine
By: Mrs. Coderre’s Honors English Class of 2021
You may have heard about Hester Prynne
And the Puritanical society she lived in
The letter A she wore for her greatest sin
But what do you know of her next of kin?
If you take a careful look
Into this very famous book
You’ll find the story of a little girl
A misunderstood child by the name of Pearl
She came into the world in an unusual way
A child of the devil some might say
Sticks and leaves were her sole playmate
And loneliness was to be her only fate
Townspeople didn’t seem to like her
When she walked around, she caused quite a stir
Evil imp was her designated name
Sadly, she was left out of childhood games
Her anger spiraled and it grew
Until one day a rock she threw
Angry, alone, friendless and forlorn
Is it any wonder her heart was torn?
Pearl is a lesson for us to not forget
Be kind to all of those we have met
