Good Afternoon Students, Parents, and Community Members:

This week was the end of Quarter 3, which means that freshmen were placed into their voags.  We look forward to welcoming them into their new majors on Monday for another opportunity to explore their future.  We want to remind everyone that on Monday, we will be welcoming back all of our in-person students.  Have a great weekend!

MCAS Update 1: Last Friday April 1st, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education sent the following press release:

Malden – Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education Jeffrey C. Riley announced today he will recommend to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education they modify the state graduation requirements for the Class of 2022. If approved, this year’s 11th graders will not be required to take the MCAS test.

With the Board’s approval, the Commissioner’s recommendation will modify the competency determination (CD) requirement in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics for students in the Class of 2022 in recognition of the missed testing opportunities when schools were closed last spring. As a result, the upcoming administration of the MCAS, scheduled to open on May 3, will no longer be required for current 11th graders.

Current juniors and seniors may still take the test this spring to qualify for the Adams Scholarship and Koplik Certificate of Mastery. Juniors who do not participate this spring will be able to test for scholarships during the retest period in fall 2021.

Due to this information, I am reaching out to all Juniors and their families to see if students are interested in taking the MCAS this spring to still be able to qualify for the Adams Scholarship and Koplik Certificate of Mastery.

Students are asked to fill out this google form so the school can account for students that are still interested in taking the MCAS test.   The dates below are the dates that students can take the MCAS test.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out by email at BHiggins@bcahs.com or by phone at 508-669-6744

Sincerely,

Brian Higgins

Ms. Szurley got married on April 3 in a very small backyard ceremony. She is endlessly grateful to the Flori department and students for helping to make this day beautiful and special. As a graduate of the Flori program at Bristol Aggie, having the opportunity to work with her students in this capacity meant so much.

Thank you to Sabrina Sheldon, Elizabeth Soares, Brianna Vega, Emma See, Ursula Ballou, Rachel Jones & Bee Thompson for all their hard work & to Mrs. Fornari and Mrs. Chevalier for helping to make it happen! It meant the world to Ms. Szurley.

Students and Guardians:

Bethany Sangler is a graduate student at Southern New Hampshire University. She contacted Bristol Aggie requesting to survey our school community. She is conducting research for her thesis regarding the skilled labor gap in Massachusetts and Vocational High Schools role in it. Bethany has also agreed to share her results with Bristol Aggie and in our attempt at always improving our curriculum, admissions program and brand, we agreed to pass along her request. If inclined, please complete the survey at the link below which is contained in Bethany's message.

My name is Bethany Spangler, and I am a Construction Management student at Southern New Hampshire University.

I am currently working on my thesis project for the Honors Program. The thesis I have chosen is focused on the skilled labor gap within Massachusetts and how Student and Parent/Guardian perception of vocational high schools' effects this. The same survey will be completed by both students and parent/guardians and discusses questions such as why they chose to attend a vocational school and if they are happy with their decision.

There is no personal identifying information in either of these two surveys, as it is completely confidential. This survey has been approved by the SNHU IRB Board, which means that the study that I am conducting meets all of the requirements for human research. The survey contains the necessary consent waiver as the first question
